“Self harm is for attention " that's what many people say. They never think about how those words feel. They have never had the urge to hurt themselves, never known the moment before they touch their own skin with a razor, a knife or even a blade, never understood why seeing their own blood seeping from their arms or legs can feel like such an escape for someone who is really hurting or struggling on the inside.
They don't see that sometimes people hurt themselves after life has been really hard on them. After fights after sleepless nights when they felt so alone, after getting hurt in ways that no one can see. Some people say, " get over it." Some ask, "Why not just cry?" What if you've already cried so much that you have no more tears left to cry? What if you've been bullied, hurt or ignored, Nothing makes it stop. Even when you begged and pleaded for it to stop even when you asked for mercy that will never come? The crying stops the begging ends, The pain goes inwards. Not to get attention. Not to show off. Because people are trying to deal with feelings that are too heavy to handle all by themselves. Because sometimes for someone who is really hurting badly it feels like that is the way to make sure the pain goes away.
