No one will take my case

I was denied by MetLife for LTD and due to my lower salary no ERISA lawyer wants to take on my case as it wouldn’t be profitable for them.

I’ve searched high and low for free resources in my state (NY): NYLAG, Legal Aid Society, Disability Rights NY. None of them work on long term disability claims.

Everyone keeps recommending I work with an ERISA lawyer on my appeal but I can’t find anyone who will give me as much as an hour consultation.

I’m truly at a loss. Someone please help.

Affordable lawyers in NY?

Been searching for an ERISA lawyer and finding myself SOL. They’re either charging flat rates of $20k and more, or only interested in 24 month long claims that they can couple with a contingency plan.

Is there any middle ground? At this point I’d rather just pay a flat fee for a few hindered bucks just to have my case looked at. Feeling defeated :/

For those of you who had LTD claims with MetLife, is this normal??

Filed a mental health LTD claim with MetLife back in April after my STD ended in March. My psych team sent over paperwork listing my diagnosis to support my case in early April.

MetLife then spent over a month trying to harass every physician and urgent care I’d ever attended in hopes of finding a preexisting condition they could ding me for, and when that didn’t work they “requested more information”.

Sent that over shortly after, and after weeks of silence I wake up to this. Are they just screwing with me or is this normal? I’m up to my ears in bills because I haven’t been able to pay any of them after being without an income for so long. My health insurance is also on the verge of being cancelled at the beginning of the month due to nonpayment and I’m freaking out.

How are you guys applying to 50+ jobs a day?

I keep seeing the sentiment that if you’re looking for work in this current job market, and you aren’t putting in 50+ applications daily, then you aren’t being efficient enough.

Maybe it’s industry dependent, but I’m applying for roles that align with my background and experience and there simply aren’t 50 new postings a day to apply *to*. Right now I’m averaging at about 5 a day, with 10 on a good day.

I did the whole “apply to whatever you see” job specificity and qualifications be damned thing, and all I ended up with was a bunch of auto rejections cluttering my inbox.
