Sent 1,100 cold outreach messages in my first year as a solo SaaS founder. 5 per weekday across LinkedIn, Twitter, and email. Tracked everything. Sharing the tool layer because "send more messages" is not actually advice.
The two tools that changed my reply rates.
Linear. $10/month. I use Linear to track every outreach conversation. Custom fields: platform, first contact date, last reply date, status, notes. It sounds basic. The reason it matters: without it, I was forgetting to follow up with warm leads that hadn't closed yet. A prospect who replied 3 weeks ago but didn't buy was dead to my memory. With Linear, I have a weekly filter "replied but not closed, last touched >14 days ago" that surfaces them. About 15% of my closed deals in the second half of the year came from these "forgotten" leads I re-engaged because Linear reminded me.
ReplyCamp. $59/month. The scenario that clicked for me: cold outreach works when you find the RIGHT person at the RIGHT time. I was sending 5 DMs a day, taking me 90 minutes to research the right 5 people. Total effort: 20 hours a week just to find prospects, before any messaging.
The tool changed the discovery side. It watches Reddit and LinkedIn for posts where someone has literally just asked about my category. I stopped guessing who to message. I started responding to people who had publicly stated the exact problem I solve, within hours of them stating it.
Reply rate on "you just asked about X, here's my take" messages: 44%. Reply rate on cold "I think you might benefit from Y" messages: 12%. Same prospect quality, different timing. The 44%ers were people who had told the internet what they needed that same week. The 12%ers were people I guessed might need it.
Combined with Linear for the follow-up layer and the "recently stated problem" layer from the tool, my cold conversion rate tripled in the second half of the year.
Numbers for anyone doing the math: 1,100 messages × 22% average reply rate = 242 conversations. Of those, about 60 became demos. Of those, 22 closed. $59 average deal × 22 = $1,298 new MRR directly attributable to cold outreach over 12 months. That's 31% of my current MRR.
Not glamorous. Compounds.
