This isn't s huge deal, but it irritates me. I've been in the hospital for a week with an ankle infection. It's hard for me to get up out of bed, it hurts to walk, it hurts to have my leg lower than my body at all.
I'm sharing a room with two other women. Both of them need to pee into what's called a "hat"- it's a little plastic basket that sits between the toilet seat and the toilet so you can pee into it and they can record how much urine comes out of you.
Every single time I shuffled over to the bathroom there is a hat filled with piss and or period blood sitting in the toilet. The nurse knows when these women are going to sit down to give a sample because she puts the hat onto the toilet for them.
Neither of these women seem to understand that they can and should hit the call button after going to tell the nurse "Hey, I've peed, can you come record this and dump it out". It also, apparently, hasn't occurred to the nurse that she can and should wait in the room to retrieve to pee or look at her watch and come back in the room after three minutes to remove the sample so the so the toilet is useable. Every single time I have to pee, I have to page to tell the nurse to remove someone else's sample.
This last time I was half asleep and needed to go badly so I just carefully removed the hat and placed it in the sink upright and secure so it wouldn't spill. I didn't run any sink water, I washed my hands with the shower head.
When the nurse saw this she got upset and lectured me, talked over me telling me that they need to record the volume that comes out of these women and I told her , "I know that- that's why I put it carefully in the sink. I didn't run any water over it or pour any out. I had to go so I moved it."
I had to reiterate that to her twice to get it through her head that I wasn't playing with someone else pee sample, running water into it, or dumping part of it out for funny hahas. It was uncorrupted, I moved it to use the toilet.
Then the nurse tells me , "Well you need to use the call button and ask us to move it!"
NO, BITCH, YOUR PATIENTS NEED TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR OWN BODILY FUNCTIONS AND USE THE CALL BUTTON WHEN THEY ARE DONE TO ASK YOU TO MOVE IT.
Not once did she tell either of the other women to start using the call button or to let her know when they were done leaving a sample.
Apparently it's my job to walk into the bathroom and look at that mess and then tell her nurse and wait 15 minutes for the nurse to get off her ass to remove it. Even though these women are literally out of the bathroom in 3 minutes whenever they go in and the nurse could wait in the room to record the volume and dump it out. For fucks sake!!!! Argh!!!!!
