Places to learn more about how Hijra lived in pre-colonial India

Hi! I'm an Australian trans lady -- hope it's ok to post here.

Would anyone be able to suggest books or articles to read about Hijra people? I've read there there's a happier period for them before British colonisation and that's more what I'm interested in. I know from Australian history quite enough about how the Brits were cruel and queerphobic. Historical fiction especially would be cool -- just as that's a format/genre I love! I have two quite well-read lesbian mates, one from Calcutta and one from Gujarat and neither of them knew of any books so I presume it's not a well-covered topic in historical literature even within India but I'm sure there's stuff out there :)

If anyone just wanted to share facts or info that'd be great too. Or if any trans women who read this want to connect and discuss directly totally keen on that!

Much love XOXO

Crystal Ball... how safe if our HRT?

Does anyone have an informed opinion what would need to happen for us to lose access to our HRT? I know kids in QLD already did, and I'm not minimising that or U18 access elsewhere at all, but what I'm asking is mechanistically how many barriers are there between my (adult) HRT access and far right politicians. I have a very patchy understanding and it's freaking me out and I'm keen to understand more.

I know drugs have to be 'indicated' for a particular use for GPs to prescribe without fear of repercussions, and this seems to need a big professional body doing the recommending. This is about right? And I know Rowling is going after WPATH. How impacted would AusPATH be by that? The RACGP special interest area in gender medicine already got taken over by transphobes, so without AusPATH when do we start getting told "I can't prescribe that"? I guess pre-figured in this is my thinking that even if rebates for Oestrogen and funding for gender clinics are pulled, it's fundamentally a cheap drug and simple script, so I'm figuring affordability is OK for most people even if those levers are pulled. And so it's the banning outright of treating trans patients, or takeover of trans-aligned healthcare institutions we're most vulnerable at.

Legislation like in red-America to outright ban trans healthcare seems unlikely to pass a crossbench -- it would require Labour becoming as spineless as UK Labour, which I'm still finding doubtful. Call me an optimist but I still feel the English operate on a special kind of cowardice to make this possible.

Understanding of my identity in China and preparing for reactions

Hello :) I'm travelling to China for work in a few days and have not had a chance to do detailed research on how I will be understood there. I am a visibly transgender Australian woman. The research I have done says binary trans identities are generally tolerated but information about us is kept out of media etc. Meanwhile, me trans friends who have travelled to China are visibly indistinct from cis women (i.e. they pass). Are people going to recognise I'm trans and understand what that is/means? Will it influence how people expect me to behave in any ways I should prepare for? Thanks!

Hobart Based

Hello lovelies! Any Hobartians out there keen to connect? Shoot me a DM 😊 Love outdoorsy things, surfing, climbing (all types) but also doggo walks and brunches. Love to make some trans friends locally as mainly my local network is cis/non-queer and my few queer friends are in Melbourne and Sydney.
