I have a dilemma.

I am on 2 tabs Diclegis in the morning and 2 at night, and originally Zofran as needed. Had the notorious Zofran constipation. Took MiraLAX and it sometimes helped.

Now my OB prescribed me Zofran 3x a day to provide round the clock protection, but I don’t see much difference to taking it as needed as I still have breakthrough vomiting. She prescribed Senokot (a laxative) for the constipation and I’ve been taking it as needed. She prescribed it for 3x a day as well but I find that two tabs spaced 6 hours apart generally does the trick… except a lil bit too well, causing a bit of diarrhea. The poo is soft, so MiraLAX isn’t the answer. The digestive grumbles have also been rather disruptive.

Any advice? My next appointment is in a few days but I think the burden of figuring this out will be on me

10w3d and started feeling better after nearly 6 weeks of hell. I was able to keep some food and water down throughout but still got diagnosed with HG. Had a hospital stay at 9 weeks.

  1. First line is medications! My OB prescribed me daily Omeprazole, Diclegis and Zofran as needed. Adjusted dosage to 2 Diclegis in the morning and 2 at bedtime. Zofran was as needed until today which is now very 8 hours. She took away my Omeprazole though and prescribed an antacid as needed instead. Eager to try it and see the difference. Tried Reglan and it drove me crazy with restlessness and elevated heart rate. Zofran can cause bad constipation. MiraLAX can help. My poo has leaned to the soft side recently but still have difficulty sometimes so my OB prescribed Sennokot.

  2. Small frequent feedings. I know, some can barely keep water down. Hence the first advice. Hunger is a trigger for vomiting so I try to eat every 2/3 hours. Some days I’m eating 9 meals. I am tired of eating tbh. Safe foods: fruit, oatmeal, plain congee, plain breads, banana and crackers. Try some ice chips if you’re having difficulty drinking water. I am Asian but even rice is too much work sometimes. Tune out those who judge you (even yourself!). Imperfect eating is better than nothing. My OB told me to eat chocolate cake if I could keep it down.

  3. Sleeping half upright. The frequency of meals means I need to sleep right after meals sometimes. I got a La-Z boy and sleep on it before transferring to the bed. I now spend equal amount of time on the bed and the sofa.

As shitty as it sounds, time will pass and there is light at the end of the tunnel.
