Is it normal to submit a 0-cost bond refund request?

I've never rented before, and my rental time is up. Everyone I know has this mindset of "Yeah you pretty much always say bye to the bond, landlords will screw you over." And it's just been accepted. I believe my housemates are of this mindset.

I have recently learned that bonds are actually through the government, and that WE (the tenants) can request a 100% bond payout. Because we do it before the landlords, this somehow switches it from us proving NO damage (or pre-existing), to them proving that it WAS us that damaged things.

It seems like a big screw you to the landlords, and I have not heard of it before.

Questions:
Is this actually the advised action to do?
Is it normal/expected to do?

Edit: Bonus question i thought of through some comments:

I think my roommates may be concerned about leaving a bad taste in the landlords mouth. They may want rental references in the future, and tbh our relationship with them has been 'fine'. Does doing this come off as a 'fuck you' at all?

I spent a while looking for a website that would help me sort my favourite songs, but I came up dry. The only one I found required me to rank each song against all other songs, and that would take AGES and could change on any given day.

I made this site: https://song-elo-18re.vercel.app/, which lets you see your rankings as you go, and you can do as many or as little as you want. (though obviously, the more you do the more accurate your rankings are).

Basically, just click "Play Some Matches" and you will be presented with two songs, and you drag/click the slider towards the song you prefer. It works on a scale, so if a song is only slightly better, then you don't have to drag it all the way!

Another big benefit of this website is that you can also close the tab and come back to it later, and slowly build up a song ranking over as long as you want.

Let me know what you guys think! And also for any improvements you think of <3. Enjoy! I make zero profit from this, so don't feel like this is an ad, just thought I'd share a project I recently finished.

Scoring explanation:

>!This site uses an "Elo" system. Essentially, every song starts with 1000 points, and loses/gains points based on each comparison. The amount lost/gained is dependent on how much a song wins by, and also how close the songs are. For example, if your top song beats your bottom song, it won't get many points, but if a song beat your top song, it would jump a lot in the rankings.!<
