13 mini eulogy

So I think this is the end for my 13 mini. At 75% battery health it needs three charges a day, while charging it gets super hot. When it heats up texting lags and words load a few seconds later, apps perform super glitchy. My area is in a heat wave right now and the phone simply can’t handle basic tasks when taken out of the pocket in the sun. It did a lot better in the cold weather honestly. I lose reception when driving through woods for a few seconds on phone calls. I tried to get the battery replaced but my volume up button is broken beyond repair so they can’t put it in diagnostic mode. Seems like nobody will work on it because of that.

Every time I go to take a picture, my camera is REALLY dirty. I have to work pretty hard to smudge everything off! I love this phone, have it on iOS 18, but it is literally dying. It is stressful to travel with this phone I need to have two battery packs with me at all times, which negates the weight and form factor.

AI (Gemini) nukes my battery like no other. Even on iOS 18 this phone barely works but I guess it would help if I had a new battery. Trading it back to my phone company even in this state will take at least $200 off my new iPhone, planning to stick it out for the 18 pro. There’s a good deal on a new 13 mini 256gb near me, but it would be cool to upgrade and have that new satellite chip. I honestly might need to do a factory reset just to make it to September in a way I can use the phone reliably. In this phones long life span, it is finally kicking the bucket.

Volume (up) button blues :(

I took my beloved iPhone 13 mini to the Apple Store yesterday, long story short, it did not get the battery replacement I was hoping for!

The volume up button on my iPhone 13 has been temperamental ever since a beach trip a few months ago. It must have heard me talking about it, because after waiting an hour for my repair to start, the Apple agent took my device to begin and came back immediately saying my volume up button was broken and a repair would be over $300. They told me they did not have any compressed air on site or anything to clean the debris.

When this happens to my iPhone, I’m able to get the volume up after dribbling some water directly on the volume up button. It works for like a day after that… anything I can do to keep it working so I can get the battery replacement done?
