Confusing baggage policy

I booked an American Airlines-issued ticket ( class S) for travel: Dallas → Doha → Chennai on Qatar Airways (operated flights).

Here’s what I’ve found so far:

* AA says my ticket allows 1 checked bag (1PC)
* Qatar Airways economy usually allows 2 bags (2PC) on long-haul routes
* Qatar confirmed that my booking system shows only 1 piece allowed
* So it looks like I’ll likely only get 1 free checked bag, even though Qatar normally allows 2
* Called Qatar customer service - they said it’s booked through AA, so their policy is only 1, but Qatar allows 2 if booked through Qatar. When I called AA customer service, AA allows 1, but it’s up to Qatar at the airport baggage check in. I’m confused.

My questions for anyone who has actually flown this route / setup:

  1. Has anyone flown AA-issued economy on Qatar Airways long haul?
  2. Did you get 1 bag or 2 bags at airport check-in in reality?
  3. Did Qatar ever allow 2 bags at the airport even when the booking showed 1?
  4. Is there any chance of a system override at check-in?
  5. Any tips to avoid paying the ~$150 second bag fee?

Just trying to avoid surprises at the airport.

Lesson learned: book directly with Qatar next time. Thanks in advance 🙏

International to Domestic travel - baggage rules 23kg

Has anyone gotten an Indian domestic airline to honor international baggage allowance without booking it together?

I’m flying Dallas (DFW) → Doha (DOH) → Chennai (MAA) on Qatar Airways (booked through American Airlines) and will arrive in Chennai around 2:50 AM.
I didn’t book my onward flight to Coimbatore (CJB) as part of the same international itinerary, so I now need to purchase a separate domestic ticket.
Since we’re traveling as a family with 4 checked bags (23 kg each) under our international baggage allowance, I’m wondering:
Has anyone had an Indian domestic airline (IndiGo, Air India, Akasa Air, SpiceJet, etc.) honor the international baggage allowance even though the domestic ticket was booked separately?
Were you able to get the excess baggage waived by calling customer service or at the airport?
Does it make a difference if the airline has a partnership with Qatar Airways?
Is there any airline that is more flexible in these situations?
I’ve already spoken with Qatar Airways and American Airlines, and unfortunately they couldn’t add the Chennai–Coimbatore segment to my existing itinerary.
I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has had a similar experience. Thanks in advance!
