Making food 20 F and 22 M

My boyfriend said he wanted to eat calamari so i tried to make it for him. i spent 2 hours this morning going around to see if i could find fresh squid for him but i couldn’t find any so i went to a nearby grocery store so get those frozen ones. all together i spent almost $60 on the ingredients when we could’ve spent $20 at a actual restaurant for it, but i wanted to make it myself for him. in total i spent 3 hours prepping and making the calamari and when im done, it didn’t look how i expected it to look, but its still edible when you’re not picky. he came and tried it, ate a couple pieces and said he didn’t like it. he said it’s “unlucky” and he won’t eat the rest. he told me to throw it all away, but that upsets me because although it doesn’t taste restaurant quality, i still spent so much effort, time, and money into making this dish for him. i told him although it doesn’t taste great, still eat a little more to make me feel better and he would not and insisted on throwing it out. now im upset at him for this situation and he’s upset at me for being upset at him. did i overreact?
