Seeking realistic adoption advice
My partner and I have been looking into adopting a dog from our local shelter. We found one that aligns with everything we want, but she’s got a number of medical ailments that we’re concerned about. We’ve been thinking/preparing for about a year now, but we’re feeling somewhat naive in regard to the medical aspect and want to make an informed decision.
After going and seeing her (she’s a 7 year old, miniature schnauzer) the shelter employees gave us a run down of her ailments which include:
• Hypothyroidism
• skin issues (dry skin from hair loss)
• dental disease
• recently had an ovarian cyst removed
• we were told she’s not currently in metastasis but she could have cancer again in the future
• they also said she might have a UTI
She’s had a rough life and we just wonder if a bit of care from a loving home (and medical treatment) would go a long way or if we have rose colored glasses about the situation.
SO we are asking for realistic advice from vets who know what these entail and any thoughts on the matter. Thank you!!
