I have a Specialized Sirrus Pro from ~2001. I rode it a lot in college, and love how lightweight it is, but it definitely needs some tlc. I recently moved to a place with access to nice bike trails and want to start riding again. It’s only had maybe 5 tune-ups since I’ve owned it (was given to me almost new by my grandpa who received it as a gift).

I want to get an idea of its current condition  and if I should replace instead of repair/ clean any parts before I start taking things apart. I’m pretty good with tools and research/ watching YouTube tutorials. I was planning on at least replacing the chain, all cables and possibly the shifters. However I read that a new chain might not work well with the existing drivetrain if it is worn down. Shifting is a bit rough even after adjustments, so I was going to deep clean the derailleurs to see if that helps.

I just found this sub and find it really helpful so I’d really appreciate any thoughts/ advice/ suggestions.

Thanks in advance!
