Hi everyone,
Context: my college is doing a lock down procedure soon in case a school shooting ever happens so we’re prepared (teaches words, and we’re in the UK 💀)
So it’s not happened yet, but recently my college warned us that there’s going to be a lockdown procedure happening (not a real one, just a “test”). We have been told that we need to turn our phones off, and place them into a box (everyone’s phones together, powered off, in one box. There’s about 30 students in my class). Quite frankly this makes me quite irritated, as I don’t believe that this would be a safe decision if a real lock down was to occur.
I spoke to my dad about it and he got quite irritated, saying “why is that gonna protect you more than i can” (my dad is extremely protective, being a single parent he feels like he needs to do more. He always answers me and my siblings on the first call, even if he’s in work.), this doesn’t help with the fact that my dad hates the college I attend, because they have treated me disgustingly, and the tutors continue to make me insanely uncomfortable.
Now it’s not just the students that have to do the whole phone thing. Our tutors have to power off their phones and laptops too and leave them in the box. But then how will they know when the procedure is over, as they won’t be able to receive notifications, and our college is quite large, and we have highly unreliable tutors.
We have also been told that if we don’t obey this rule, we “fail” the test and it may affect us going forward during our time at the college.
So AIO for thinking that them forcing the rule of us all having our phones taken because I don’t believe it is logically safe to do so in a real scenario.
