Why don't they give you the cargo? You're just the transporter, right??

As much as I like playing this game, there is one thing that bugs me. If you accept a cargo/supply delivery mission, it feels not logical to me that they don't give you the cargo?! The amounts are very high for a character that is not a resource harvester.
Maybe it could be done like this: First, pick it up somewhere or it is automatically transported to your ship, Make sure your ship has enough space, deliver it. Maybe a modder could make it so that the cargo appears as an non-interactable object in the personal or ships inventory? Or, that when accepting, you could have the choice to mine the resources yourself instead of accepting theirs, for a much bigger reward?
Anyone's thoughts on this?
