My wife thought it was a good idea to hire an assistant and I was hesitant for a while due to cost and I thought well… I can do it all myself. We both travel for work. She’s away 75% of the year and myself probably about 40-50%. We travel together a lot too and are lucky to be able to bring our dog often.
To my surprise she called me about a month ago and told me she found someone to help us and she wanted me to give it a chance. I WAS SO WRONG. The young woman helping us has changed my life for the better. What does she do? Heres an example of just one day,
- Cleans the floors & even polishes the wood floors
- Washed towels and rugs
- Mailed packages and letters
- Converted cash for international trip
- Dropped off donations
- Prepped food for dog boarding w/ medication and supplements
- Walked dog
- Brought dog to his boarding (~1hr drive each way as it’s a specialized training center for working dogs)
- Returned some items to store
- Picked up medication at pharmacy
- Watered plants
- Took out all trash including small bathroom waste bins
- Ordered flowers for all of the moms in our life to their tastes from various local florists to each
- Picked up dinner for me
- Drove me to the airport for evening flight
I worked all day without stress and anxiety that typically accompanies a travel day. My wife was away and I’d have to deal with all the errands otherwise. How much do you think it’s worth? She worked from 11 AM - 7:45 PM
to me now this has become priceless. But for those wondering, we live in a major city and I pay her
$250 a day (usually 8hrs). I threw in 20 for gas today and an extra $20 for staying late and dropping me off at airport and I gave her some Rhode makeup goodies.
I love having my time back to marathon train and workout and focus on my work during the day. Still saving and investing plenty but for an assistant— I’d splurge.
Combined income is around $500k annual. Both 26 yrs old
Edit: discovering this may be more of a house manager and less a personal assistant, regardless, she is worth every penny. She’s a local college student and little sister to my wife’s coworker and yes she is happy with her compensation.
