Anyone ever feel like the bigger beard makes them look “fatter”?

So for reference the “shadow beard” was a year and a half ago when I started my clinicals and the longer beard is today, a week after graduating. I’ve probably put on 30~ pounds, but I feel like the facial hair has an effect on my face of accentuating roundness in my cheeks and giving my head an overall rounder look. I’m 6”2 so I wear 30 pounds slightly better than most given my stature. I’m wondering if going back to the first style will help with my appearance until the bloating and fat I’ve put on due to poor diet, stress, and lack of time for the gym fades.
Any experience or insights to a beard being less than flattering are appreciated, and angles or trim recommendations welcome. I personally prefer having more beard for comfort reasons but I’m tired of disliking my appearance.
Ps, I do plan to work on the weight, it’s just been a problem balancing health and the incredibly stringent program I was going through.
