I crushed my middle finger at work, and it’s been three weeks now. All my stitches have been removed. What’s been really hard is how fast things changed within 24 hours my finger went from looking okay to turning completely black. I saw my hand specialist today, and he said we can either schedule surgery to remove the fingertip or wait a week to see how things progress. I chose to wait, because the pink part of my fingertip still has sensation and I can feel it when I touch it. The black part, though, feels cold and has no sensation. There’s no smell or signs of infection. I’m trying to understand whether recovery is still possible or if my fingertip is already compromised because of the dead tissue (which I assume it is). This whole situation has been a mental battle. I know to some people a fingertip might not seem like much, but it’s part of my body, and the thought of losing it is really hard. Any advice or emotional support is welcome. I appreciate anyone taking the time to reply.
