I want to legally change my name in Ontario. The application requires that I should have been a resident of Ontario for 12 months at minimum before I can apply.

I have resided in Ontario since May 2025, but my status back then was of a temporary resident. I only became a permanent resident this year. Does my time as a temporary resident also count towards the residency requirements for the legal name change? Or can I only count the time after I become a permanent resident of Canada?

If anyone has any insight I would really appreciate it. I did call Service Ontario but was not given any clarity about my particular situation.
