I broke up with my girlfriend because I had distanced myself from a group of friends who seemed more interested in her than in me. Despite knowing why I cut ties with them, she continued to stay close and hang out with them. When I expressed how much this hurt, she was initially dismissive, but eventually apologized and agreed to stop contact, admitting she would expect the same from me if the roles were reversed.
However, a few months later, she started talking to them again and her behavior began to change. While she did tell me she was back in touch with them, I felt deeply hurt because she chose to ignore a boundary she knew was important to me. The most painful part is knowing that I would have sacrificed those friendships to make her feel secure, yet she willingly disregarded my feelings.
