Review Star Health and Allied Insurance claim issue — ₹35,385 claimed, only ₹17550 approved

Buying insurance is easy. Getting your claim explained shouldn’t be.

I’ve been paying around ₹25,000/year to Star Health and Allied Insurance. After bilateral knee replacement, we submitted a ₹35,385 claim — only ₹17,550 was approved.

Around ₹16,000 was deducted from physiotherapy, while ₹935 + ₹900 bills were marked “duplicate.”

It’s been 3+ weeks of follow-ups, yet I still haven’t received a clear clause-wise explanation.

What frustrates me most is that when selling the policy, customers are given promises about coverage, financial protection and peace of mind. But when you actually need to use the insurance, the experience can feel completely different.

I’m not asking for anything beyond what my policy covers. Just show me the exact clause, calculation and reason for these deductions.

This may look like a small claim amount, but that’s exactly what worries me. If the claim had been ₹5–10 lakh, unexplained deductions like these could have put a family in serious financial trouble.

So if you’re planning to buy health insurance, please research the insurer and claim process carefully. Don’t rely only on promises made while selling the policy.
