Building an app that fully edits short-form videos automatically — which transitions actually hit?

Hey, I'm building an app that edits short-form videos end to end. You drop your raw footage and it handles the whole montage automatically — the cuts, the captions, b-roll, pacing, transitions, all of it. Basically raw clip in, finished short out.

Right now I'm dialing in the transitions part and it's the thing I keep second-guessing.

There are a ton of transitions out there and most of them look kinda cheap to me. I don't want the app throwing 50 mediocre ones around. I'd rather it only pull from a small set of killer transitions that actually make a cut hit.

So for the editors here:
what are the transitions you actually reach for on Reels/TikTok/Shorts? The ones that make an edit feel pro instead of amateur. And which ones instantly scream "beginner" the second they show up?

Trying to get the taste right before I bake it into the app, so drop your go-tos, I'm taking notes. 🙏
