Mastered #37: Wonder boy in Monster World (Genesis)

Mastered #37: Wonder boy in Monster World (Genesis)

I've never played any of the wonder boy series aside of playing a little bit of the first the wonder boy and adventure island, but i've heard great things about this game and they aren't lying.

Was a fun 2d platformer adventure game with small metroidvania elements, was an easy game and set to beat with only having to look up a few things and the final boss being really hard, since it felt like I was getting bounced around like a Pinball barley able to hit the boss.

I did have trouble with the sphynx since im bad at quizs, but luckily before I saved i made a copy of my save, and after I finished the game I went back and finished the quiz, the quiz only has a few questions so it was easy to remember what the answers I got correct/incorrect on my past attempt.

It was easy to grind in this game especially in the last area so the second gemstone was no problem, hell I was actually considering grinding some more to get an extra heart for the final boss, defently didn't expect an alien to be the final boss in this fantasy game, don't know if this is a common thing in this series, might play the other games later.

Guess who just got to 10,000 points on retroachievements.

Just got to 10,005 points on retroachievements while trying to master wonder boy in monster world, will probably master this game today or maybe tomorrow since im so close, it's almost been a year since I first joined retroachievements and started my journey and while there were some hiccups i've been having fun replaying the games I grew up with and experiencing new gems with it.

Mastered #36: Champion Boxing (SG-1000)

This is probably the oldest game i've ever Mastered and ever will master, i've been stuck playing neutopia for a few days and haven't made that much progress so I decided to try a fast set, and after scrolling i decided to try this game.

I actually never heard of the Sg-1000 until I watched RndStranger's "All* Sega in a Day" a few months ago, the game plays like a mixture of Punch out and Urban Champion (another game i need to master).

In the main game you can pick five difficulties and you must knock out your opponent a couple of times, you can switch between three punches. Jap: fast but weak, uppercut: slow but strong Straight: middle child. You can hit him in the face or the stomach and block his Punches by not punching and positioning your fist in front of where he's Punching, dispite how much more advance it is compared to Urban Champion i did find the game to be too clunky and not that fun to play tho it definitely could be because it's on less advanced hardware so I won't be too mean to this game even if it doesn't hold up these days.

I not counting this as a critique against the game but everytime i beat the opponent and win the match the game would glitch and become unrecognizable and I would have to restart, not that big of a deal but I do want to know if that's how it acted on real hardware or if it's an emulation glitch/issue?

Mastered #35: Kirby Super Star (snes)

I wanted to take a break and decided to master a fast easy set for beat a decided to do Kirby super star because I played the ds version of the game as a kid and did the set so I thought it would be a quick fun set to master, and for what it was it was mostly fun, only really having trouble with the no healing in the arena achievement and the samurai Kirby minigame.

It was fun playing this game since I played the snes game alot as a kid, and i never knew anything past the arena was added in the ds version tho I guess it makes sense how alot of the other games reused bosses and entire levels.

Mastered #34: Burger Island (DS)

Im back on the island again!!

Forgot to do my mastery review thing when I mastered this, i had just beaten Phineas and ferb and had finally got my wii badge so I wanted to take a break from playing wii games and catch up on some of my back log, the three being kirby super star, neutopia, and burger island ds since I already did the wii version and this set didn't look that hard to master in a few days.

The game is a demake of the original game but it's pretty much the same, only thing different that I noticed was the assets and audio being crustyer, I did find this playthrough to be a little better than when I played the wii set due to me playing on normal this time Instead of playing on hard like the wii version and me preferring playing this on a ds than the wii.

A look back at the Wii rollout.

Since today is the last day of the wii event i've decided to show off my mastery's i've done for the wii event, i've sadly could only get the bronze badge, i just didn't have the time to master more games and I didn't have a controller until a less than a month ago and there were some games that i couldn't play due to motion controls and me not knowing how to get them to work, if i had another month i maybe could have tried to get silver, two sets that i would have done would have been rayman origins and lego star wars and maybe do some quick shoverware titles but im satisfied with my time and will try to master more wii games in my own time now that I won't have to worry about running out of time and can play them in my own pace, hopefully the next rollout i'll be able to have more time to play some games.

Mastered 33: Newer: Summer Sun (Wii)

I had just finished super mario bros wii and I wanted a quick game to finish so I thought hey I should try out the this hack since it's summer I think and it looked easy and fast to master and I hadn't tried to master a hack on here before so I gave it a try.

Honestly it was a fun game and set, kinda small but it was neat, only took me five hours and it was enjoyable, might check out the fall and winter hacks when those seasons come.

Mastered #32: New Super Mario Bros wii (i wonder)

I have only played some of this game before i attempted this set, i played and beat the rest except new super luigi but I never was able to play that much of this game until now, well now that i 100% this game and mastered this set, what do I think about it...eh...it's alright, I do think it's the weakest of the new games.

I agree with salmence100, I think many levels were made mostly for four players in mind and since it's like the first time multiple players can play at the same time in a traditional mario game so there is some learning plains when it comes to the level design that I think were improved in later games.

I did enjoy my time with the game, It was easy until like world 6 when I started dieing more than but by than I had like max lives and it's very easy to get lives, the new powerups were cool, ice flower is cool but the penguin suit is just better version of it, the propeller mushroom was cool, the mini mushroom was kinda useless in this game, it doesn't really get used in this game well like in ds, even as someone who thinks the mini mushroom gets too much hate i think it was useless in this game and added nothing.

I think the set most of the time were fun and some of the challenges were neat like the timed achievements, but I honestly didn't care for the coin achievements since alot of them felt like a drag and felt like panning out the set with some achievements, 9-4 9-2 especially felt annoying to do.

Honestly not much to say about this game, overall had fun with this set and this game but im not planning on replaying this game anytime soon after this...well maybe aside from the newer hacks.

Remastered #1(#7): Splatterhouse (Arcade)

Another trip back to the titular splatterhouse, when I first mastered this set while I was mastering the pc-engine set, I thought the original was an ok set for newcomers but the set was just being the game normally and two extra achievements that added nothing cause you would get them normally just by playing the game. (The shotgun achievement and the original 1000 points achievements)

When this set got a revision I was excited to replay this especially with the new achievements and after mastering it I can gladly say that this set was an improvement over the original, I still find the Pc-engine version a little better but this is a better beginner set that gives a little challenge but not impossible, the no continue challenge was probably the hardest set but after playing the beating game five times you start to get the rhythm of the game.

Mastered #30: Lego Indiana Jones (Wii)

Well that was fun, I played the ds version of this game as well as the other lego ds games so it was a treat to play the real version instead of the ds port, theis version had different levels compared to that version so both are totally different games which is kinda cool imo, it's like having two games really compared to it just being a port of it.

The game is like every Lego game, playing through the events of the movies with silly cutscenes and some collectothon action, I liked the starwar cameos, I think it was pretty neat how they were just hanging out in some stages and finding them in unlocking han solo was neat (I don't remember if the ds version had Han solo)

I'll admit the ds version was never my favorite Lego game and this version still isn't, it ain't bad but there's not much im really blow away by, I think the fact you play as idiana Jones (plus one or two more characters) in every level while does make sense with the movie it does make some levels kinda boring since i've been playing this game for six hours already and im still technically indy, the lego games at least swap the main chacter sometimes when it made sense with the movie, the roster also is kinda bland, it has the chacters it should have plus some enemies from the game but the rest feel like filler and while I just said I liked Han son, i feel like their weren't any place to really play as the other chacters once I was done with the free play

Im probably going to replay the ds version of this game to compare versions as soon I clear up my backlog.

Mastered #29: Double Dragons 2 (GB)

This was a fun and quick set, It only took me like 2 and a half hours to get it finished, now part of the reason my be that I actually played this game before a while ago, the game was original released as a kunio-kun game before rebranding as doubled dragons two in the us, the game is the same as the kunio-kun version but they just repainted all the sprites and locations to not resemble the kunio-kun series, replaced the music with new bgm (the original music was good so I'd why they did but im not complaining), and added a new story to fit the double dragons.

The game is a basic beat em up, you can punch, kick, uppercut, stomp on baddies, and grab enimes as you go to stage to stage, the game is short especially if you know what your doing on normal most enimes die when you use an uppercut and then stomp on them, the bosses are easy to stun lock and can just be uppercutted a few times before they fall, again I already played the kunio-kun version a week ago so I already knew how to play, the first time I did i started on hard and while I could tell the difference (enimes having more health/having stronger attacks) it wasn't a dramatic change compared to normal, after getting the achievements for beating the game on hard i replayed it on easy so I can get the achievements for normal and get the 250k on double dragon, that achievement was annoying for me since I don't know if there was an easier way to get to 250k points, so on the second to last stage I just kept kicking a guy over and over, never giving him a second kick untill I got to 250k , I then played it once again one last time to get the no death achievement, the game was so short and easy so it wasn't that hard of an achievement if you know how to dodge the bosses.

Mastered #28: EarthBound beginnings (nes)

This was the first rpg i've ever beaten when I first played this year's ago, I played a few but never could get into them, however this was the game that made me click with the genre, so replaying this game with retroachievements were a fun way a revisiting this game, and while I still love the game and hold it dear to my heart...I fo admit I did end up seeing alot of the problems with this game this time around.

I definitely think the other earthbound games are better but this game has a vibe that rivals mother 3 and earthbound especially the music which I think has the best music of the trilogy not even counting the vocal album.

I do admit it took my way too long to finish this game because I was trying to get the final achievement where I beat gygus with only ninten which requires you to do quite a bit of steps before you can face him, that I ended up messing up and having to restart the whole game twice cause I didn't save a copy of my file, but the actual boss fight wasn't as bad as I thought, I mostly kept my shield on, my defense up, using life up B, and carried some ps-stones so I can recharge my pp, I honestly made me realized how easy the final boss actually is.

But that was fun and im glad I played it again, now I need to decide weather it's should replay earthbound with retroachievements or try playing mother 25th anniversary hack.

Mastered #27: Scooby-Doo Mystery (Genesis)

Decided to play this set to take a break from Lego indiana jones and earthbound beginnings, I played a little bit of this game years back at my dad's but I didn't get far because admittedly im kinda bad at these point or click games since im stupid but since I had enough time and patience I was able to beat these two around an hour and 30 minute for each on first try.

It's was an charming game, basically two Scooby-Doo episodes and it's pretty fun, they are original but they do seem inspired by some episodes from the original series, I thought the sprite art and were pretty good and had a lot of personality but Velma does look off.

this was a pretty fun set, I didn't find it too annoying most of the missables were easy to get, only forgot to take the gold at the end of the first ep so i had to do that over, and i had to replay that episode again for a third time because i just barely missed the 30 minute timer because of the final cutscene, the clown bumber cars were annoying but wasn't so bad once I understood how the controls worked, and of course the 30 minutes were challenges were easy after you beat the ep.

Over all fun game and set, glad I gave this game my time.

"Oh what a simple set and game, this will be a fun quick set to finish" -clueless.

I'll be honest with you, this set nearly broke me by the end, the first 30 levels weren't that bad but by the 50s, the game demands you to try getting large amounts of cash by the end in only 3:00 minutes and you will have to hope that the rng gives you the orders that give you large amount of cash because even if you play perfect and go as fast as you can the game will just not give you enough and you will have to just do it over and over again.

Even after finishing the game on jumbo I had to replay the game again because I died too many times and lost my rank because of course the cooking game has lives of all things.

I did replay it on easy and got to rank 10 by level 35 so it wasn't that bad, I might play the ds version someday but im sick of playing burger island.
