How do you catch up with friends who are always working?

Hi folks. First time poster and really looking for advice. Maybe perhaps i’m being quite selfish and not respecting their best interests

I’d regard this person as a best pal for a few years. We’re both mid twenties ish

We took up some hobbies and had a routine going and it was great to be able to catch a two or three times a month around both of our hectic work schedules. However in the recent months they’ve taken up an additional job over the weekend as they wanted to earn more money. Their reason was that the extra work pays well and they sometimes have quiet weekends that they could use to earn more…. The new job is mostly time for money. They’ve said its not really in the industry they want to pursue so its not career unlocking in any way

Now with the extra job, I rarely see them. They work all week and all weekend. Every time I try to offer some plans they’re working. Or they agree, then pick up work and say they’re now busy.

I’ve tried to manage around this and offer some trips or plans 2-3 months ahead, maybe a short break etc suggested we both book a few days out of work which they say sounds good but don’t commit to. We don’t really do any trips and was really looking forward to summer plans having spoke about it last year but now this never gets anywhere as its volatile with work and family for them.

We still chat on socials quite often. But planning anything social outside of this is now near impossible. Im not sure being direct with them with how I feel would land well - ultimately I understand how they want to spend their time is their business. I know they don’t mean bad by it

I feel like they’re equally wasting good years of their 20’s chasing money. I could understand more if it was a business or career opportunity or they were in financial difficulty. Again, maybe this is a selfish view as I feel let down

How would you approach this? AITA in this and overthinking it?

Thanks!
