help repairing Christmas stocking

I’ll post the long story of the drama that led to this for anyone interested, but the issue is trying to repair a knitted Christmas stocking where strands have been cut in an attempt to change an aspect of the pattern… I’m not sure if this is the right tag for it, but hopefully it’s apropos enough to pass.

Someone who really didn’t know what she was doing decided that these letters weren’t knit in and attached to the rest of the stitches — they were somehow embroidered in after the piece was completed? — and in an attempt to change the name that was knit in, cut the strands for the white lettering. That has destroyed this section of stitches, and they’re now hanging loose, and will continue to unravel unless something is done. I’ve never had to do anything like this, so I don’t know what is even possible.

Is frogging this entire top red section the only option? Or is there another way to repair and save this without unraveling the last two color blocks and redoing it?

I’ll post the drama in a comment to this.
