Glide Shawl & Assigned Pooling

I am a fairly experienced knitter, but I am really not pleased with how my glide shawl is looking. This is the first time I’ve done anything like assigned pooling to create the little flowers. Are the holes/gaps on either side of the assigned pooling normal? What am I doing wrong?

I will also say, just to vent, that I am really disappointed with the colors in my skein. Compared to the example pictures on the web site and in the pattern, the yarn I received looks so washed out. I know that’s just how it goes when buying online, but I’ve never been disappointed with the yarn I bought before.😞

Help with Summer Secret Crop pattern

Thank you to those who chimed in to help me find a summer project! I did start the Summer Secret Crop (https://ravel.me/summer-secret-crop) but I need some help with part of the pattern.

Here’s where I’m confused. Once I switch to the bigger needle size, do I begin knitting with the increases immediately so I’m increasing throughout that 1.75” duration? or do I knit for the desired length (1.75”) and then begin increases?

I’ve looked at the notes and questions on ravelry and I’m not seeing any questions about this, so I apologize if I’m just being a bit thick… but any help is appreciated!! I’m just really not sure how to read this correctly.

Thank you!!

Cheap tools ideas?

I was working on something today and I have my counter. I don't like it. I tend to start using it and then it gets somewhere on my couch and I can never find it again. So I decided to attach it to a hook so it's always on my knitting. I also don't have any straight needles except for three sizes, but I have like 11 different sized DPN. I added stoppers to use as straight needles. There are a lot of things we have that can be used for other purposes like scrap yarn for stitch markers. Anythings you guys use that people may not think about for helping to not go out and buy something.

Designing a dual yarn holder: Need your expert advice on base stability! (Deep pit vs. Shallow base)

Hi everyone! I'm currently designing a premium wooden dual-spindle yarn holder, and I want to make sure I get the mechanics absolutely right before I start making prototypes. I’d love to get feedback from actual knitters who use these tools daily.
I'm torn between two base designs regarding the spindle seating (see the attached photo):
Left Image (Deep Recess): The spindle sits deeply inside a carved-out bowl in the base. My thought is that the wooden walls will completely stop the spindle from tipping over when you yank the yarn from the side. But it requires a much thicker, chunkier base.
Right Image (Shallow Base): The spindle sits on a very shallow plate. It looks much sleeker, modern, and saves space, but my biggest fear is that it will easily fly out or tip over when pulling yarn at higher speeds or weird angles.
My questions for you:

  1. Does the deep pit (Left) actually make a huge difference in stability in your experience, or is a heavy shallow base (Right) totally fine?
  2. Has tipping/wobbling been a major pain point for you with wooden yarn holders?
  3. Bonus question: I'm planning to make the spindles interchangeable (screw on) so you can swap a thick wooden spindle for a thin brass rod for yarn cakes with tiny center holes. Would you find that useful?
I really want to design a tool that is highly functional and makes a great gift, rather than just another pretty decorative piece that doesn't work well. Any brutal honesty is welcome! Thank you!

Lace Knitting! Advice on a post-block fix?

Ok, so I just finished this gorgeous scarf/shawl out of some handspun BFL/Silk. Pattern is the free Horai Scarf- super chill 4 row repeat.
As I was blocking (in 4 separate stages because I don’t have enough mats), I found these two “runs” in the pattern, and I’m not sure what happened. They’re in the first quarter of the scarf, which I already had to frog about 20 inches of earlier in the process. I’m trying to decide how to handle this. (First photo is the problem in the first quarter, second is further down the scarf, what it should look like. )

Do I try to pick up the stitches, unravel from my cast on and knit the other direction to fix it (and if I do that, should I reverse the row order)? I’ve only knit one other lace item, which is still a WIP, so I’m not sure how to handle this. Is there a world where I could stitch in the missing links with a needle?

I haven’t found any other issues with it, but I’m also trying to diagnose what happened- when I look closely, it seems like the stitches are all there, and my stitch count wasn’t off, so is it a funky tension thing, or maybe an issue with an accidental decrease or something? Like, the pattern is offset by 2 stitches every other row, did I somehow line the pattern up incorrectly in those spots? ‘

I’m pretty disappointed, because I was so pleased with it, and it’s always frustrating to catch a mistake back at the beginning once you’re done. But on top of that, this was supposed to be a commissioned piece (my first-not something I plan to make a habit of), and so I really do need to address this. It’s not a “no one but you will notice, so it doesn’t matter” situation.

Fave summer knits

To those of you who live in climates with warm summers, what has been a piece that you knit for yourself that you actually enjoy wearing in the summer? I’ve come across many fun, airy patterns that utilize yarns like mohair and the maker will end up saying something to the effect of they don’t wear it because it ended up feeling weather confused, etc. I’m feeling cast-on decision paralysis and need some insight into what actually feels good on in the summer. My stash is primarily cotton but I want all perspectives using all yarns!

Pics appreciated but of course not necessary!

Help with knitting yarnovers

Help! I’m a beginner knitters and have only knitted different kinds of hats and I’m knitting my first children’s cardigan. I’m meant to be doing raglan increases with yarnovers and then knitting it through the back loop to close it on the following rows. Why aren’t mine closing? Why are they bulging? What am I doing wrong?

The pattern is the beginners jacket by petiteknit

Double yarn overs

I’m currently working the lace edging of the Heart of Winter shawl by Nim Teasdale

I have no idea how to work the double yarn overs on the wrong side row. After I did the first WS row after the double yarn overs, I realized they stayed double yarn overs and the hole got bigger. I looked it up and realized sometimes you’re supposed to knit through one loop and purl the other. My pattern says absolutely nothing nowhere about that. Am I making a mistake by only purling across and then only knitting across these double yarn overs? Will they close after the first row of the next repeat?

Thoughts on adding a fabric lining and/or interfacing to a knit cardigan. Any tips/tricks?

Hi…so basically what the title says… I knit a cardigan that I feel is too thin and airy I guess you can say. My gauge was correct but yarn was slightly lighter than I planned but I went with it. So since I plan to add a zipper to it, I planned it to be heavy almost like a jacket. I thought why not add a thin fabric lining to it but I have never done that and can’t seem to find any YouTube videos for this. The cardigan is in panels so I think it would be fairly simple. I got some Pellon Easyknit interfacing that I’m thinking to attach to the knit panels to give it some stability so it doesn’t stretch too much and sag from the lining.

Has anyone done this? Wondering if this is a good idea or if there are any tips for doing this. Any info/opinions would be much appreciated!

Increases?

I’m making something similar to this top-down capelet. Different yarn, different gauge. Is there a reason why the increases seem lopsided, unevenly spaced across each increase row? There are more at the beginning of the row. (All the increase rows are like this.) Am I not just making the work wider, so can I just distribute the increases evenly?

Need help with tension

I started a few days ago and i have gotten the stitch down, but i struggle with tension. Some stitches of mine are loose and some are very tight. Any advice for that? 😞😢

u/Random_Girl_9000 — 4 days ago

clearly i did something horribly wrong when joining new yarn. is there hope?

i joined new yarn by knitting with the new yarn as normal, knitting two stitches holding both tail and working strand of the new yarn, then two more using the old strand and the new. it created this horrible hole. is there any way to fix? what did i do wrong?

WIP... Swatching for my Shetland Wool Week sweater & stuck on colours?

I've been planning my first fair isle knit where I have to pick colours (instead of knitting from a kit) and I'm stumped because I like all my swatches and don't know which I should go for 😭

A - "the light one" has the best tone contrast between the colour sections (quite proud of this colour selection). I like the bottom half of my swatch where I made the predominant colour natural Shetland sheep wool. I tend to lean toward greens/blues so this feels like a good fit.

B - "moody/retro" when I stitchfiddled these colours, this combo spoke to me the most and also matched the vibe I was going for. But swatching, I feel like I'm forcing the colours to play nicely together. I switched the foreground colours in the bottom half of my swatch to make it more plummy.

C - "purple/green sea" is giving me the moodiness I want, but also somehow feels like I'm knitting up a mermaid tone? This definitely feels like the prettiest swatch as I was knitting it... I didn't plan a beautiful gradient but somehow got one.

Stuck on purl soho hoodscarf - ws is rs and rs is ws?

I am doing short rows for the first time and am a bit struggeling with what is said at the bottom of the pattern.

Does it mean I should follow the short row instruction for the RS on the WS and the instructions for the WS on the RS?

Hoping someone can help me clarify, I feel terrified about this next step! Added a life line in case I messed up. Also vert addement to finish this hood scarf and tackle short rows.

Thank you for your help!!!

German Short Rows Newbie

Hey! I’m doing GSR for the first time and I’m not really understanding the pattern. I think I’ve understood the technique, but not the instructions of how long to knit them. Could someone please explain them in other words?
