Beginner here, so my apologies for asking basic questions but I’m struggling to find the answers online.

Questions:

1. If the sweater pattern ( I believe it’s a raglan sweater of sorts) calls for 8mm circular needle (40 + 80cm) does that mean tip to tip measurement? Also does it also mean magic loop method is required?
2. With magic loop method, when I try to reinsert the needle back into the loops (the needle that’s just been emptied by the working needle) of the remainder half my needle is always stuck because the loops are now super tight/small. How do I prevent this from happening?
3. When I do my CO row then P 1 row and K 1 R (continue this pattern) on the magic loop I can’t seem to get a flat side? Is the stockinette stitch done differently on the magic loop?
