Work Permit Reform?
Trying to understand the recent changes to work permit holders in Cayman…
For context: I’ve been on Island about a year and a half (2 years in December). I am on my second work permit since arriving (most current permit effective before May 1) but it’s not working out. I had serious concerns about how I was being treated by a specific department, and I sat down with my boss and discussed how I was feeling within my role and my future there.
They completely understood my concerns and wanted to try to fix it for me, but also offered me a release letter in good faith as they also understood if I didn’t want to stay working there because of the discomfort it has already caused.
If I get a good release letter from them, am I able to move jobs? Or do I need to present a case to WORC? Is there someone at WORC I can go and speak to about the specifics? I’ve never had this kind of issue with my precious employer and only ever gone to immigration to get a stamp when necessary so I really have no idea.
