Joining a Carnival Band alone?

Hi everyone,

Per the title. I really want to be part of a band for this carnival. Friends have dropped out last minute. I am tempted to go by myself. However I am worried it will be uncomfortable going without knowing anyone. Does anyone have any thoughts.

I appreciate the logistics are difficult this late, but still workable.

Any insight much appreciated.

Best

Life is so brief and that brevity makes us so radiant.

Just venting here

I live on a beautiful island in the Caribbean, recognized frequently for having the best beaches in the world. Recently I started to visit daily and just sit there alone, listening to the ocean, the breeze, the chickens lol. & I can’t help but to soak up the moment. When I leave my house and drive, there’s the beautiful blue sea. But I don’t see it. It’s always been there. I won’t always be here, and neither will these beaches. Nor this moment. I’m so thankful to be a part of right now, to be here. To sit and admire what’s in front of me while it’s in front of me.

3 months from today will be my 1st cancerversary, completion of treatment.

Everyday since the day we met, my husband says first thing in the morning “it’s a beautiful day to have a beautiful day.”

Thanks for reading

Visiting the island late-July, looking for local happenings

We came to Grand Cayman 3 years ago and still talk about it as one of the best weeks of our life. We were in a difficult transition and it was the perfect escape for a complete nervous system reset. One of the best nights was taking the island bus service (which we used exclusively to get around) and getting into bus with a bunch of people going to a house party. They invited us, we changed our plans, and had so much fun. The kind of stuff you can't find on tourist calendars.

We're back to GC July 16th-23rd and hoping for the same kind of luck. Are there any festivals/parties/local events we should be sure to check out? We're fun food entrepreneurs

Fastest Way to Get a Document to Cayman

I need to ship a document from USA to GCM. Is FedEx/UPS/DHL the best/fastest way to do this? Can I ship to the FedEx store itself and pick it up there?

Honeymoon Recs - Reservations needed?

My fiancé and I will be honeymooning there in two weeks! We are staying on 7MB at the Ritz! The only reservation we have so far is for mambo italiano night on Saturday at Paradise Pizza.

Are there any reservations we should for sure make ahead of time before getting there? Like at restaurants or excursions?

We are mostly planning on just booking stuff when we get there unless that’s not recommended.

We are thinking we will do stingray city, the coves, turtle center, bioluminescence tour, starfish point. Any other must dos/sees/eats?

Also, is it worth it to work a round of golf into our plans?

Cannabis

So any update with the cannabis laws over there ?
I’ve looked at older post some send the address to the local police station (that’s honestly pretty funny) others tell you “follow the law” I’ve seen a guy on here scamming tourist lol and I understand all of that and I know they wanted to push decriminalization maybe like a year ago

just curious if anything has changed while I’m planning a “vacation”
on the other hand as many suggested I may just not go all together because I want to “enjoy my vacation “ not follow the local redundant laws I’m not going there to become a kingpin

so I apologize if that offends anyone into feeling like they need to enforce that on Reddit of all places just trying to find out how regressive the island currently is and if the decriminalizing thing they had going on has went into effect
A straight answer and my options would be the most helpful ! Thanks

Babymoon recs — Hotel Indigo + Palm Heights, late June

Heading to Grand Cayman in late June for our babymoon ahead of our second. 2 night at Hotel Indigo, then 3 nights at Palm Heights. Wife will be around 26 weeks, so keeping it low-key. A few questions:

  1. Hotel Indigo: Worth eating at Catalina for our one night, or somewhere else on or off property?

  2. Rental car vs. taxis: We’ve got the airport, the hotel-to-hotel hop, and maybe a couple of off-property dinners. Is it worth renting a car for 4 days, or just taxi/private transfer everything? What’s the going rate from GCM to Seven Mile right now, and anyone have a private transfer service they’d recommend?

3.Palm Heights dining: Should we just eat on-property all three nights, or is there an off-property dinner worth the trip? Anything to skip at Palm Heights?

  1. Excursions: Anything worth doing given the pregnancy, or just stay low-key on the beach?

July visit

I'm planning on visitng Grand Cayman with gf in July. Likely staying at one of the hotels on SMB. I'm hoping for some recommendations on must-visit restaurants, bars, beaches, and tours. Open to both laid-back and formal establishments for dining/drinks. Would love to see some live music/dancing!

Which island to travel to?

Looking into traveling to either the Caribbean early next year can’t decide which island to go to. We have been debating between Grand Cayman or Anguilla. Looking for the best beaches for relaxing and maybe to do some snorkeling.
Also which month between Jan-May would have the best weather on these islands?

Storage in Cayman for a classic car?

Anyone here have any good ideas for where I could pay to store a classic car in Cayman?

I've reached out to a few facilities but they're either absurdly expensive (like $250 CI a week) or aren't fully enclosed to protect the car from the salt in the air.

Appreciate any tips.

Is cayman Islands a good move

Hey hope all is good.

Just wondering if its a good fit for my family and I to move to the cayman. My husband has been offered a job for 160,000 USD.

We have 2 kids aged 2 and 1. I will eventually work when all settled and if work is available.

Just wondering if its feasible to have a moderate to good life on this with the intention to save and invest.

Thanks everyone ☺️

Help- injured cat at the villa im staying at

There is a younger cat that keeps visiting the villa I am staying at near the north shore. It seems like it had been hit by a car, with a broken leg or hip. She can still get around ok but won’t put weight on her leg.

I don’t know what to do. How can I help the cat? I know that cats are not great for the native environment here but I hate the idea of leaving her to suffer with a broken leg. I am leaving on Saturday morning.

Best cigar shop for Cubans

I suppose it’s between Old Havana and Le Casa del Habano.

From the reviews, it seems like Old Havana is the clear winner but curious to get this sub’s thoughts…

We’ll be there next week.

Thanks!!

Everyday banking charges/water temperature.

  1. Are there any banks (for everyday banking) that do not charge fees to spend your own money/ transfer money?

  2. Is the cold tap water actually lukewarm?
