Palm Heights ?

We’re traveling to Grand Cayman with our 5-year-old at the end of this month and are trying to decide where to stay. We’re strongly considering Palm Heights because we’re not really “big resort” people. We love beautiful, intimate boutique hotels and mostly want to relax.
Our ideal days are pretty simple: our child playing in the calm water and sand, us relaxing under an umbrella nearby, taking breaks from the sun in a beautiful comfortable room, and having genuinely warm, attentive service.
My only hesitation with Palm Heights is whether it feels a little too influencer-oriented or snobby. We definitely appreciate beautiful design and luxury, but we’re very low-key and don’t want to feel out of place traveling with a normal, playful 5-year-old.
Would you recommend Palm Heights for this kind of family trip, or would you choose somewhere like Hotel Indigo instead? We’ve also looked at the Ritz, but it seems much larger and busier than what we’re looking for.
Please advice! Thank you!

Job Search in Cayman

Hi all, apologies for posting yet another job question but I’m not sure who else to ask.

My wife has been offered a role with a start date early 2027, I have about 10 years experience in financial services/fund administration and have a Finance degree from an Australian university. I am having a lot of trouble finding a recruiter willing to engage with me as I don’t have a post graduate qualification (CA, CPA, ACA, ACCA etc.) has anyone who has navigated this got any tips?

I’m highly motivated to find something as the move may not be possible if I can’t also find a job.

Thanks in advance.

Does anyone replace a car battery while you wait?

I don’t trust my car battery any more to hold a charge - it still starts but suspect it needs replacing. Is there anywhere in Grand Cayman where I can turn up and have them swap it out, without having to leave the car with them or spend hours waiting around? The tire shops are all so efficient so I’m hoping there are places that do similar for batteries.

The car is a BMW X2, if it matters.

Thanks in advance

One Year Anniversary Accommodation Recommendations

Hi everyone! My husband and I are planning our one year anniversary trip for late May of 2027. I am looking for recommendations on where to stay with a budget of around ~$4k or less. I love utilizing credit card perks as much as possible, so I'm tempted to book the Hotel Indigo by IHG through AMEX, but I've also been looking at the Botanica Queen cottage. With this budget in mind for a romantic but fun anniversary trip, does anyone have a better recommendation? Supporting facts about us: avid snorkelers, beach beach beach, great food, one nightlife night, bonus points for spa recs. This will be our first trip to the Caribbean together so really excited!!

Shark Attack on Governor's Beach?

I saw a post on Facebook today from a Cayman news outlet which said a woman was sent to the hospital on a stretcher following an incident in the water. Apparently, witnesses said they heard someone shouting "Shark!"

Does anyone know anything about this?

If it was indeed a shark attack, is that not the first reported shark attack on a swimmer in Cayman history?

UK to Cayman move

Hello, my husband and I are considering relocating to Cayman from UK with our young family to seek a better quality of life and spend more time outdoors. We both work in senior IT roles. What is the Cayman market like for IT professionals? I have read a lot of negativity on here about expats in Cayman, challenging/hot weather, work permit issues and how cost of living is extremely high. Is it really all that bad? The UK is very expensive and salaries have not increased to match inflation so we are used to a high cost of living, plus we are taxed heavily. Looking for some realistic, but hopefully positive, advice about a move to Cayman and your experiences please! Thank you.

Weather

My husband and I just booked a last minute trip next weekend! I am so excited but noticed the weather looked rainy in the forecast. I know it usually blows over quickly but wanted to check how it had been this week? Thank you!!

Restaurant recommendations

We are visiting the first week in September for a milestone birthday for my husband. Both Blue and Mario’s are closed for the month. Does anyone have any other similar restaurant recommendations for us to celebrate? Caveat is that it MUST have GF options.

Emotional trap music made in North Sound Estates, thoughts?

I know this style of music is a bit unconventional for Cayman, as this resembles 2016 bad bunny and Anuel AA, two artists who made Latin trap more widespread. My song here is like that, but completely in English, a first for my songs. I was wondering if this style would work in Cayman, as I am trying to make this genre more widespread on island. Any thoughts on the song?

Help needed with broker not returning security deposit

We shifted to a rental property in January - the property was very old and so were all the furniture and fittings inside. However, since we just had to stay for 6 months, we were okay. We also heard the broker mention several times that the owner is going to get everything renovated and changed soon after we move out as it’s old. Before leaving, we scrubbed and cleaned everything and everyplace to the best and the house was just as how it was given to us, and we agreed that any further charges for deep cleaning if required can be deducted from the deposit. The broker also came and inspected the place.
Cut to more than a week now when we didn’t get our deposit back, and on asking the broker has taken a 180deg turn with bogus claims that the furniture is the house needs to be replaced and false claims of us leaving the house unclean so she said she will have to forfeit the entire security (2.6k) to get the furniture replaced. She is now going on to say anything false to support her claim, and not sharing the contact of the owner with us too. We were given old furniture and we still cleaned everything and returned the house to her as it was received, plus right when we were vacating she came and inspected the place and said everything was okay and suddenly a whole new story with hurtful false claims. We are fine with the deduction for deep cleaning but so shocked that she says she wants to charge us for furniture and fittings replacement when there has been no physical damage. How can we handle this situation? Any support is greatly appreciated.

Grand cayman Marriott name changed

The Marriott just changed its name to the Grand Cayman Marriott Beach resort. I was wondering if anyone has been there recently and seeing how far they’ve gotten with the project to restore the beach. I know they were saying September and I’m just wondering if that is correct. I’m planning a visit for the end of November.

How connected do Caymanians feel to the UK?

NAC, but curious abt how ppl in each OT 'relate' to the UK. Places like the Falklands and Gib will by their nature have a more closer relationship but how much do everyday Caymanians relate/think/are affected by the UK and what goes on in it?

Condo rental for family of 5

We are planning a trip to grand cayman in late March. We have 3 kids, aged 10-13. Ia currently looking at Regal Beach Club or Sunset Cove. We will be doing a bit of diving...other priorities are nice beach, decent pool, close enough to a bar or restaurant. Anyone have any experience with Regal Beach or Sunset Cove they could share. Are there any other locations that are similar and worth looking into? Thank you!!!

Trip in late August

Going to cayman island in late August (last week) and staying at the Hotel indigo for 5 days. Is it important to book the stingray city and starfish point/ snorkeling group tours in advance? Or can I just book while I’m there?

Also, we’re only there 4 nights and 5 days is it worth getting a car rental and driving around the island if we’re really prioritizing having a relaxing easy short trip?
