Based on my situation, would it make sense to pay for kid’s college tuition at this age?

Background- single parent, older middle aged, w/ a middle to (perhaps nowadays) lower middle class income for California, with lower side of retirement savings for my age.

Question-would you fund a business degree for your incoming freshman kid that might cost anywhere from 100-120k if that would interrupt your retirement savings? Would you take out loans?

I would be grateful for your input and ideas!

Does a business degree have a high probability of layoffs/ unemployment in this job market?

I hope this is a relevant question here. I feel my question is directly related to amount of layoffs I see happening+ I see a lot of thoughtful posts/ comments here.

Background- my kid got into a business school in a better tier school and also he got into engineering in lower ranked UCs all in California and he chose to go to the business major but in the better known school. Now as I witness what’s happening to our workforce, do you all think it’s a wise decision to fund a business degree that might cost anywhere from 100-120k? (single parent, middle aged, w/ a middle to perhaps nowadays lower middle class income, with low retirement savings for my age).
I’m starting to really doubt this decision. But on the other hand if he decides not to do this, he has to go to a community college and start all over( he has a very high hs gpa) without knowing what to do since ALL jobs seem to be vulnerable.

To summarize, my questions are:
1- knowing what you know( assuming many of you have been through layoffs), would you, from a middle/ lower middle class, go to a business degree for 100-120k? (No loans. Parent will fund ). I forgot to mention he likes business concepts better than engineering but he’s is good at STEM courses as well, and should be able to handle engineering rigor based on his performance in a highly academic, STEM hs.

2- if you say no, what would you do as someone just starting their adult life? ( he is not that coordinated/handy in order to go to trades)

I’d really appreciate your input.

UCR students- would you do it again?

My son got into electrical engineering as a hs senior. We are trying to understand if ucr is the right environment for him(We are in Southern California).

If you go back in time would you go to ucr again? Could you all share your experience? Good and/or bad? This is a significant decision for us, and we need to know what we are getting into: The culture, safety, professors, internships, and especially job recruitment are important to us.

I would really appreciate all input!

New student concerned about the housing issue

Hi everyone, my son got in and while we are thankful and excited, we keep hearing about the housing issue there. We have no idea what we are getting into. As a parent I’m trying to assess the situation and see how bad it is.

Please give me your honest feedback or your experience! Any information would be greatly appreciated.
