what happens after you hand out device?

Getting devices like laptop to someone is easy enough, its everything after that gets messy. tracking who has what, sending replacements, getting laptops back when someone leaves, figuring out what to do with old devices... it all adds up pretty quickly, and the thing is, we really dont want another IT platform just for this, we already have enough tools and dashboards to deal with.

How are you guys handling this without making the process more complicated than it needs to be?

autopilot solved configuration, not logistics

its easy now to automate the software side of managing devices, push apps, change settings, reset devices, lock them remotely, etc, but when someone leaves, the physical stuff is still manual, like wheres the devices like laptops? did they actually ship it back? whos handling the return? Is it sitting in a box somewhere for two weeks? feels like we automated everything around the device, except actually getting the device where it needs to go. does anyone else still dealing with this in your company??

how much weight do you give to a vendor being noted in a document on a regulatory agency's website?

I am attempting to resolve a classification matter regarding third-party risk assessments. I read claims that one of its banking projects references its pilot program in the proposed SEC postquantum framework. Although this document is accessible via the SEC website, it only mentions the pilot program as a precedent for implementation. This report to the SEC crypto task force was created by an outside entity. The SEC’s written input page states that submissions are uploaded without adjustments and do not automatically represent the company's view. Thus, while the reference exists, the use of the existence reference doesn't carry the weight of the SEC’s guidance, an SEC staff position, a regulation or policy item, a validation performed by the regulator, or an endorsement of the vendor. When you record this in a vendor's risk assessment what label do you use? My gut tells me something along the lines of “mentioned positively in third-party submission provided to and publicly held by the SEC without any indication of authorship, approval, or endorsement from the SEC.” I believe this approach strikes a balance between maintaining an external signal of importance but still relegating the vendor proximity to the SEC as not being regulatory approval. Would you establish a hierarchy in handling these claims or simply evaluate each case individually??

PQC for legacy systems you can't actually upgrade

How are people implementing post-quantum cipher encryption for legacy systems when updating either the application itself or the underlying infrastructure is impossible? The most logical solution I came up with is to use an encryption proxy or gateway that intercepts tls traffic so that updates may be made to newer cryptographic algorithms and hybrid cryptography without impacting the legacy system. however the traffic behind the proxy remains as it was configured in the past. In that case, is there true system upgrading or has the trust boundary simply changed with the addition of the encryption proxy? I am interested on how this can be done in appliances, older vendor applications, IoT devices, etc.

How long does it take to replace a broken work devices?

broken laptop shouldnt mean someone is stuck waiting a week or 2 just to get back to work. and the annoying part is usually not the laptop itself, its getting the replacement ready, shipping it to the employee, and then dealing with the broken device afterward in your team how you guys handle this?? especially with remote employees. Do you keep spare devices ready, or have a faster way of handling replacements?
