Dialogue options that didn't mean what you thought at all?

I convinced Astarion not to ascend and afterwards he asked what he should do with the vampire spawn.

I chose the option "Why not just leave them? They're not our responsibility," thinking that I was saying "let's not decide their fates right now on impulse, we should let the Gur decide what to do since their children are among the spawn." I also thought that maybe selecting that option would cause Astarion to choose their fates himself.

Instead he broke the staff and trapped them there forever... whoops. Sorry Sebastian.

I finally saved them all!

This was the first playthrough where I finally managed to save every single Gondian (along with Ravenguard and Omeluum) in the Iron Throne AND everyone in the foundry on tactician difficulty. It's only taken 7 playthroughs!

The foundry was surprisingly easy, as thankfully the Gondian AI seems to have been fixed so that they no longer run straight at enemies. All I needed was Shadowheart on standby to spam mass cure wounds on everyone. The Iron Throne was a lot trickier and needed several attempts, but I eventually managed it by throwing invisibility and speed potions on everyone as I opened their cells.

I wish there was an achievement for saving them all but I'm still glad I finally managed it.

Why are random civilians trying to join in the fight?

I was so frustrated at everyone in the graveyard coming to throw hands at the army of undead the little girl summoned. Bro, you have 6 hp and no weapons, let the 4 level 12 adventurers deal with this and run away!

They have the survival instincts of the Gondians...

Things you didn't discover until multiple playthroughs?

It took 4 playthroughs before I realised you can save the brain jars from the Nautaloid tutorial section and use them in the brain interface in act 2 for cool unique dialogue.

This is also the first playthrough where I've stealth killed all the scrying eyes before entering combat. The Steel Watcher at the checkpoint said my record was clean and I was free to enter the city.

Wild magic surges are so fun!

I cast polymorph on someone, successfully turning them into a sheep, before immediately having a wild magic surge and turning into a sheep myself.

Bro why am I being blamed for this?

Isobel got kidnapped by Marcus and, in a power move I didnt see coming, Myrkul killed her with his scythe in the final battle. Now Withers has the audacity to lecture me for killing her? I didn't do anything!

I'm not going for the eye on my main character this run but I was curious if anyone thinks any of the other companions might end up letting Volo operate on them.

My first thoughts are:

- Astarion definitely wouldn't, since he doesn't want the tadpole removed,

- Laezel definitely wouldn't as she thinks a creche is the only path to a cure,

- Gale is smart enough to know it's a terrible idea but might let his curiosity override his caution. He generally approves of doing dumb shit in the name of curiosity (like drinking from the well full of dead bodies or eating tadpoles) so I don't know. Could go either way

- Shadowheart initially says that Volo seems very knowledgeable and I can definitely see her letting him operate on her just to piss off Laezel,

- Wyll only has one eye so he can't. However, I think he probably would if the player talked him into it, as he's pretty naive,

- Karlach I'm not sure about. I can see her going along with it because Astarion dared her but I can also see her being wise enough to not trust Volo at all.

I tried to rescue Sazza from the grove but didn't realise you could sneak her out (had no idea about the secret exit at the back and didn't know about invisibility yet). I was playing a fighter with 10 charisma so when I got caught by the guards I failed the check and immediately had to fight them.

The first lot of guards lost me about 50 approval with Wyll. I hadn't learnt my lesson and CONTINUED TO TRY AND JUST WALK OUT OF THE GROVE WITH SAZZA! Obviously, I failed my persuasion check again and ended up killing a ton more innocent tieflings, which made Wyll leave the party. I have no idea why I thought I could just let someone out of prison and walk straight past the guards without a fight.

I also had no idea what sight cones were in my first playthrough. I thought that the red meant shadows and I had to stay in the red cones to be hidden. I felt very stupid when I finally figured out why it was impossible to sneak.

The most stupid thing was not quite understanding how spells worked for the first hour of my playthrough. Most of the time, I was just having Gale whack enemies with a quarterstaff...

In my headcannon, on the night when the whole party gets sick and the dream visitor tells you that you're transforming into mindflayers, they were absolutely just lying to make themselves look good.

Throughout the game, we're told that many times that the transformation will be instantaneous. It doesn't really make sense for the party to start showing symptoms instead of just transforming straight away, even with the artifact.

More importantly, by this point in the game, my team had licked goblin toes, drunk well water with corpses in it, eaten a roasted dwarf prepared by people with no understanding of food hygiene, and walked through a putrid swamp with open wounds. It's not exactly shocking that they got sick. (Gale even warned us that goblin feet are host to a dozen toe curling diseases). I think the emperor just saw an opportunity for further manipulation and ran with it

So with medium armour your bonus from dexterity is limited to 2. Say you had a dexterity of 5 wearing medium armour. Would the negative penalty from dexterity be the full -3 or would it be limited to -2?

...you manage to save all the Gondians in the Iron Throne?

So far, the best I've done is having only one casualty. The dialogue afterwards says 'most of the gondians share your fate' and Thulia says you saved 'so many'. But if you managed to save everyone, is there a special dialogue options?
