Should stats feel more like real choices in Classic Maple?

I’ve been thinking about the stat system in Classic Maple.

Right now, most classes don’t really “choose” stats. You mostly put points into your main damage stat, then just enough into a secondary stat to meet accuracy or equipment requirements.

Examples:

  • Assassin: LUK for damage, DEX for accuracy/equipment
  • Warrior: STR for damage, DEX so you don’t miss
  • Mage: INT for damage, LUK mostly for gear
  • Archer: DEX for damage, STR mostly for gear

At that point, stats almost feel like they don’t really exist. Once people solve the optimal build, everyone follows the same formula.

I’d love if stats had more real tradeoffs again. Not necessarily perfect balance, but something where putting points into a secondary stat changes your playstyle instead of just being a requirement.

Part of me wants to feel a little bit of what we felt as kids, when we didn’t know exactly which stats to raise and builds felt more personal and mysterious.

What do you think?

Would a more flexible stat system be good for Classic Maple, or would it hurt the old-school identity?
