"the hype is gone" can we stop saying this ?

Every unreleased game announcement will generate hype then that hype will die down because of the wait, the next big announcement will do the same. This will keep happening until the game officially launches.
Most games go through this process so idk why people keep saying that the hype is dead like they wont be the first ones to log in on launch.
Casuals and non ms players who are interested are not this cult like following every thing nexon is doing publicly or not, they will just wait and join whenever the game is out, the only thing that we should be hoping for is a good release and a well thought out plan for the future of the game.

Wait for Classic release or try current game?

I used to play Maple Story heavy around 2010 for a few years and then stopped and never went back. I recently got the urge to start playing again randomly but after some quick research it seems like the game is VERY different from what it used to be.. and I still cant tell if it’s for better or for worse lol. But then I also saw some reports that theres a Classic version supposedly coming out that is supposed to be very similar to probably the version I was most familiar with.

So I’m debating whether I should just wait for the Classic version to release… at some point, or should I just jump in and try this new current version? I’m just afraid this new version is gonna be TOO different from what I remember and it’s gonna turn me off, and then I wont even be interested anymore when Classic comes out.

How big is the difference between this current version and the old school, and would an OG player be able to adapt, or even enjoy it?

A new chapter for BasilMarket

My team and I are working together with Relleke and others to help improve the BasilMarket project for the community going forward.

The goal is to bring BasilMarket back as a useful place for MapleStory Classic players, with the website, forums, Discord, marketplace features, and future tools all being built around the community.

A lot has already been added or started over the last month, including account creation and login, forums, threads, comments, profiles, Discord verification, captcha on registration, verified user posting, the Beginner job forum section, an Art Section with moderator approval, post/comment editing, edit history, online activity, quotes, and item updates.

The next bigger update should include the Buy / Sell / Auction sections on the site. We are also working toward Discord integration for pings, messages, alerts, and future marketplace activity.

Since BasilMarket has been around for a long time, we would also like to hear what players would want to see added that was never added back then, or what features people think would make the site useful again today.

Updates will be posted on BasilMarket, the BasilMarket Discord, and here when it makes sense.

There is still a lot to do, but progress is being made and BasilMarket is moving forward again.

The Best Thing About Maplestory Classic

Calling all Henehoes! I saw a bunch of people making videos about why they are excited to play classic so I decided to get back into animating to talk about my reason! It’s not like the game is coming out anytime soon lol. I love talking about game design and I think the party exp is one of the changes I am most excited about and thought other people might enjoy this as well!

Nexon: Introducing MSClassic, Alpha testing for developers only, where they have to grind to level 200 so they can get a feel for how the game works.

Inkwell notes: We really want to get this right, so all our developers will be grinding to 200 to ensure the game works well before release!

Weapon attack in beta

To all the people who played in the beta - does additional weapon attack even matter now? Is it even worth it to go for work gloves with as much watt as possible?

I’m feeling like they are changing the formulas a bit too much to the point I no longer understand how it works. Maybe it’s because I didn’t experience it, but it feels much more complicated even when I’m just watching it on yt.

Scroll Change Rationale?

I figure the new scroll system is very subject to change. But I'm trying to understand when you would ever use the regular 10% scroll over the chaos scroll.

To recap:

  • 10% scroll now gives +3 stat instead of +5
  • New 10% 'chaos scroll' gives +5 stat, but explodes the item on failure

But I don't get it, if you fail a regular 10% scroll, your item is worthless anyway, you throw it on the ground. On a clean item, there are two crafting paths:

  1. You use a 10% scroll. It fails. You throw the item on the ground
  2. You use a chaos scroll. It fails. The item is destroyed

These are the same outcome, but the 10% scroll has 66% less effect on the item on success. Wut?

I cannot believe…

that we are going to get GTA6 and League Classic before we get MS Classic. Shame on Nexon for dragging this out and not giving us anything. I’m losing all interest.

“I’m losing interest…”

bitch please!! you’ve been playing this game for 20 years and will hop on that Classic MS D as soon as Grendel drops his robes and shows you his magic wand!! stop the cap!! Fatty Inkwell is too busy counting his battle pass dollars to care about some MS addict crying about how he’s going to stop playing!!

Hot Take: We don’t actually want a 1:1 Classic server. We just want the social aspect.

Hear me out. You don't actually want a 1:1 classic remake. What you actually want is to feel that nostalgia and the social vibe we had as kids.

The target audience for a Classic MS is people in their 30s now. If we want a server like this to actually succeed and keep a player base, we have to be realistic:

1. The 12-hour daily grind is dead The old-school progression worked when we were kids on summer vacation with nothing but time. Now? Most of us have jobs, families, and adult responsibilities. We might get a few hours a week to play. If it takes weeks of grinding just to get one level, people are going to burn out instantly once the initial nostalgia high wears off. Plus, younger generations of new players aren't going to touch a game with that slow of a pacing.

2. What we actually miss is the social aspect People don't miss the mind-numbing grind; they miss the community. They miss hanging out in Henesys, doing Party Quests, and actually interacting. That magic wasn't ruined because leveling got faster later on—it was ruined because map expansion bloated the game. The world got too big, players scattered, the level gaps widened, and it became a solo game.

So, how do you fix it?

Instead of a grueling 1:1 replica, a classic server needs to be treated as a shared experience with faster leveling and gated content phases.

  • Launch with just Victoria Island: Keep the world small so the player base stays dense and forced to interact.
  • Let the sweats sweat: Hardcore players can still "no-life" it to rush the leaderboard or be the first to down Balrog. Give them ultra-rare drop rates or cosmetic rewards to grind for so they feel rewarded.
  • Release content in waves: Hold off on releasing Orbis/Ludibrium for a few months until the majority of the casual player base catches up.

This gives casual adults a reasonable pace to progress and play together, while the competitive players get a fresh leaderboard race and better-scaled monsters with every new patch. This basically creates a 'seasonal' model where every new patch triggers a fresh leaderboard race for those who seek that, but caters to the bigger casual base. You also get to keep the long-term investment in a single character—something you completely lose in games with hard seasonal resets.

Which patch do you guys draw the line ?

everyone here seems to disagree on what is classic, inevitably at some point the game is gonna get closer and closer to bigbang.

I know there is a group of people who would say something like "the game shouldn't move forward after a certain patch so it can stay classic" but let's be real that's not gonna be the case and it clearly isnt the developpers' vision as they said its gonna be a parallel world to modern gms.

So I want to know which update do u think the game should completely deviate from the original patches and start doing it's own thing ?

I have a feeling MSClassic will be released in 2028

This is the kind of thing Nexon pulls, when have you expected something from them good, and they delivered? Never.

Positive vibes

Since we all wait for the release lets have some positive vibes even tho we’re sick of waiting.

What was your rarest/coolest item from back in the day?

My coolest item was my +50 dex bathrobe… was so sad when everything was so inflated after logging in after years not playing which made it practically worthless

If you want this game to be hard, play a private server or do an Ironman challenge.

This isn't a competitive game. It's a silly MMO with simple controls and silly enemies. The overwhelming majority of fans just want the game to be fun. Nexon isn't gonna listen to the vocal minority of fans that keep demanding they make the game hard for the sake of being hard.

If you want a challenge, then make it yourself. Other MMOs have an "Ironman Mode" that prevents you from trading, and a "Hardcore Mode" where death is permanent. Some games let you combine both modes. These started as self-imposed challenges that became official game modes after getting popular. You can enhance the challenge even further by avoiding the crafting and/or storage systems.

Instead of demanding they make the entire game harder, just ask Nexon to make challenge modes like Ironman and Hardcore Ironman, complete with their own leaderboards.
