7 Year Old has Zero Independence

Ok, perhaps I'm being unreasonable here but I want some perspective so don't hold back.

Our 7 year old (only child) still needs constant supervision. I don't mean because he is a liability...

He has never gone into a room without mum or dad present - including the toilet, the garden even his own bedroom.

He hates being alone, which I get. I just expected him to WANT a bit of independence by now you know?

He also requires our attention the whole time, which I know is standard and we love playing with him.

I guess I just dream of a day when I walk into a room and he doesn't follow me, or just a time when I find him playing on his own?

Not because I don't want a mini shadow, I just want it for him you know?

I checked the trees, they ain't there bro.

Also, if they slept in trees why don't you see owls catchin z's in the daytime?

Seriously, it's like they go to another dimension.
