We added AI tools to our SaaS recently, but looking at the analytics, most users try them once for the novelty and never touch them again.

Right now, our AI is mostly reactive, like a standard prompt interface. I am starting to think that to get real retention, we need to stop building chatbots and instead have the AI do background tasks automatically without the user needing to ask.

Are your users actually coming back to use your AI features after the first week? Has anyone found success by moving away from chat interfaces and just letting the AI run autonomously in the background? Would love to hear what is actually working for you all right now.
