New Zealand Personal Trainers and anyone studying to become a PT
Kia ora team,
I’m keen to hear from personal trainers across Aotearoa — especially those who are currently studying or working through their PT qualifications.
If you were planning to start your own home‑based PT business, what would be more valuable to you:
• a franchise‑style setup you can plug straight into, or
• a full DIY blueprint that shows you how to build your own home studio from the ground up?
I’m thinking about the practical side of running a PT business in NZ — things like GST/PAYE admin, PAR‑Q and onboarding forms, client processes, sales conversations, feedback systems, and everything that sits behind creating a professional, thriving setup.
Also, curious whether options like mentoring or rent‑to‑own equipment would make the transition into self‑employment feel more achievable.
For those currently training to become PTs: what would make you feel confident stepping into your own business once you’re qualified?
Keen to hear your thoughts and experiences.
