Undervolting vs temp limit vs power limit
Hey all, I have a 5070 dual fan MSI Ventus in my SFF. It's nice and I get totally fine performance for what I paid IMO. However it seems to run pretty hot. In games like Oblivion remastered and Alan Wake 2 and Forza it gets to like 80+ degrees and then the fans start going insane and it's so loud I can't even hear the game. Fan Control app has helped a lot with the curves in some games, I have a fairly exponential setting where it the fan speed stays pretty low up til about 70/75 and then ramps up to 100% at 90c.
In oblivion capping the frame rate at 60 definitely helps but AW2 even with 'performance' upscaling mode, and DLSS (should I be using this?) and other sensible settings it will still just go balls to the walls and quickly gets up to 85%.
I really don't mind capping at 60fps for any triple A type game, but the fan speed is driving me nuts
I tried after burner following a youtube video where I find the mhz @ voltage when AW2 is stable, but those values dont really match the curve in afterburner. Beyond that I tried raising the curve, but when I re-entered the game the voltage stayed the same, but my clock was a lot higher, and fan speed was almost worse. So more of an OC type effect. Not sure what I'm doing wrong
Should I try the 'temp limit' or 'power limit' modes instead, or maybe I need to retry the undervolting again..
At any rate just looking to get the temps down a bit without nuking my FPS. Happy to answer any followup or join discord w/e. Thanks
