5 year fixed or 2 year mortgage or simply pay it off

Currently have around £50000 left on mortgage with 9 years left. Need to remortgage in October. I am financially secure and have enough savings to cover mortgage with secure job. (Self employed)

54 now and Planning to retire 62. With interest rates is it sensible to go for a 2 year fixed or 5 year fixed with the plan with 5 years to overpay and then hopefully pay it off over 5 years etc. What's the thinking these days of actually paying off a mortgage as I can use my savings to do so. Currently ISA rates lower than interest. My current fixed term interest was lower than ISA so had no interest in overpayment etc

advice on what to do when coming towards the end of a mortgage

My existing mortgage was a 23 year deal and I am now 15 years into it. My current fixed deal ends in November 2026. I am in a position financially where I could afford to now pay off my mortgage over the next 5 years rather than 8 years. I am with first direct who allow overpayments. Am i therefore able to take out another 5 years fixed term and then for example make overpayments so i basically nearly clear the mortgage during that 5 years. how would i then clear the balance remaining after the 5 years to avoid early repayment charges etc
