Everyone needs to sell gallons today.
Plain and simple.

Assistant Manager is the best job in the company. Decent salary for most part, you get Overtime , get bonus and ultimately the store results don’t fall on you. Managers also have to pick up the slack due to staff shortages but if you do , at least you get paid for it.
