Toronto Pearson Airport luggage tag switching scheme
I have a flight tomorrow from Toronto, and I just saw news about baggage tag switching, where tags from your checked luggage are placed on another suitcase containing drugs. Apparently, some people went to jail for months before the truth came out. They are saying this happens on a daily basis, and honestly it made me paranoid. How can you protect yourself from something like this?
It also got me thinking, how can you trust that your checked luggage will not be opened and drugs added to it? That seems even harder to defend yourself against, since the drugs would actually be found inside your suitcase. I feel like luggage should go through security and immediately be checked in and loaded onto the plane. There should also be some kind of waiver stating that if anything happens to your luggage after it has cleared security and been checked in, it is no longer your responsibility, whether at the departure airport or after arrival at your destination.
