“Rain is the great equaliser”

“Rain is the great equaliser”

I have heard that phrase since I started to watch F1. But it’s not fully the case. Car performance, characteristics and set up still play a massive part.

When we get a wet session we don’t suddenly have a completely different grid order. Unless there’s chaos with tyre change timing usually the order is relatively similar to the grid when it’s dry so how much difference can the driver actually make in the wet?

Do you think it’s just a case that the best drivers are already in the best cars so they fall in order. Or is there only so much the driver can do and car performance is still the biggest factor.

Thoughts?

Saw this on X and I strongly disagree.
From 2010 onwards I would argue that Vettel, Alonso, Rosberg and Norris clears Leclerc.

An actual title will always hold more weight than potential raw talent. (I know Alonso didn’t win a title after 2010s but I still believe he has been a better driver post 2010 than Leclerc)

What are your thoughts, do you think there is an argument for this?
