Is this closet damage in new york termite-related?

Was doing some spring cleaning when I noticed this hole at the bottom of a wooden bean that joints the closet wall. The exposed inner wood wall doesn't seem to be eaten and when I noticed new small holes higher in the closet, I inspected further. No frass in the holes, or on the closet floor, and when I sweeped, there were no discarded wings anywhere. Because I'm in New York/Long Island I'm not sure if there is a certain termite that would be really good at hiding and I wouldn't be able to tell. I don't see any mud tunnels and when I press my head up to the wall I don't hear a constant sound... should I be hearing one? Would it be very noticeable to hear? The brown at the bottom of the hole is mostly runoff dirt from the bottom closet railing. Additionally, I found this insect in a closet ottoman near by, however it doesn't have any antenna.

A bit paranoid but whatever viewpoint/perspective works.
