PSA for anyone who works with hair and hair loss clients
PSA on behalf of everyone and anyone dealing with hair loss:
When I am at your clinic for PRP treatment for my hair loss…
….or buying a halo hair piece
…..or at the dermatologist‘s office for my hair loss
and I ask you where I can throw away the handful of hair that I have lost while sitting 15 mins in your establishment DO NOT SAY THE FOLLOWING WORDS TO ME:
“Oh, I shed, too”
or “I’m losing my hair, too”
or in anyway attempt to normalize or compare your experience to mine while I lose a hundred hairs just in the time we are talking, and you stand there with your full head of hair talking to me like I’m fu(king blind.
Say nothing. I’d rather you just say nothing than compare your “hair loss” to mine.
You don’t know what you are talking about
Are you currently wearing a hair piece?
Did you ever get PRP scalp treatment?
Are you taking a bunch of medications to try and stop the hair shedding?
No?
Then sh-t up!!!
Attempting to normalize my experience with yours is NOT EMPATHY. It’s patronizing. If I could, I would scream at every person who has done this, but I can’t so here we are.
This announcement can also be applied to most everyone, everywhere. Unless you are experiencing life altering hair loss, your normal shedding IS NOT THE SAME. Say nothing. Just say nothing and point me to the trash can where I can dump my fistful of hair in peace.
Thank you
