[LFA] Ildis of Gartenna, a "Roman" slacker, underachiever wizard Isekai'd into Faerûn
Looking for art references/ideas for my D&D character, Ildis Varro.
He’s a human necromancer wizard from a homebrew Roman-inspired empire called Calassia. Born in a sleepy coastal fishing town, he grew up lazy, clever, and deeply underwhelming by the standards of his militaristic culture. His father was a decorated auxiliary veteran who earned citizenship through military service, but Ildis completely failed military academy and became the laughingstock of his town.
Eventually he ended up working at a funerary temple preparing corpses for burial, where he discovered an unexpected talent for magic. His worldview basically became: “If I’m too weak to fight, I’ll make others do it for me.”
Shortly after, his world collapsed. Interplanar raiders from the Forgotten Realms abducted his town into the Underdark, and now he wanders it like a mix between a refugee and an eager, isekai tourist.
Appearance-wise, he’s not a stereotypical dark necromancer, but more of a sunburnt Mediterranean coastal slacker:
- early 30s
- olive/tan skin, messy dark wavy hair with sun-bleached tips
- dirty
- lanky build
- sorta tired eyes
- he wears long, practical layered clothing inspired by Roman provincials/travelers with some dangling trinkets, coloured in dusty reds, faded purples and warm leather tones
- he carries a gigantic bureaucratic scroll full of arcane civil-service exam material, where he gets the spells from (his spellbook in practice)
- slowly picking up subtle Abyssal corruption and Underdark vibes over time
His vibe is:
“underachiever accidentally becoming terrifying through shortcuts, necromancy, and bad decisions.”
