I marked this as a spoiler as this thought covers a lot of the book The Last Hero.

I totally read the voyage in The Kite as a Red Dwarf pastiche:

Rincewind as the slacker Lister

Carrot as the rule abiding Rimmer

Leonard as the aloof Kryton

Stibbons in the omniscope shard as the ship computer Holly

...and the Librarian is found on board in a very similar manner as the stowaway Cat!

I searched this subreddit if anyone had posted this same thought, and I found a post citing that the Red Dwarf was STP's favourite TV show :) so I'm convinced this was an intentional nod!
