Weird grid lines on 2D animation

Weird grid lines on 2D animation

I think I'm missing a key component here since I'm mainly learning Blender right now for 2D, but I have an animation created from an imported image (that was then used to create a Grease Pencil object) that for some reason once I have reopened the file is showing weird grid lines when I either zoom, select sculpt mode, or edit mode. Can someone please help me make this stop?

Editing .png or any other image in next keyframe

Hi! I promise I searched both the help resources and Google/YouTube for an answer to this, but I couldn't for the life of me find a simple answer:

Is there no way to edit a .png or other image in the way you would draw animating keyframes? For reference, I have a picture of a dog that I drew, I imported it and am trying to animate the dog's tail wagging. Whenever I try editing the image I can do what I basically described excpet when I save I get some sort of image error. If I import the drawn image a .png I can erase/redraw the tail in the next frames, but again when I save that work disappears when I save and close.

Seems like such a simple thing and I have no clue why it's so hard to do. It kind of seems like tracing is the only option, which sucks because I want to retain the pencil lines of the original image for animation.
