Went for temporary veneers got nubs and temporary crowns.
I went to my dental appointment for 10 temporary veneers on #4-13 but my teeth were ground down to nubs and I got 10 temporary crowns without consent. I contracted for 10 veneers and the possibility of crowns were never discussed. If I knew there was a possibility of crowns on my upper teeth I would have never proceeded. When I questioned the dentist he said he didn’t ask because I was sedated. I had conscious sedation and I could follow instructions, answer questions and I even got up and went to the bathroom. He said there was decay on the back of my front teeth that didn’t show up on the x-rays. I find that very confusing because I never saw or felt any decay. Previous to the appointment I had x-rays, multiple digital scans, and molds made. He recommended 8 crowns on molars that had large amalgam filling which I had done in two earlier appointments. The total cost was $30,000 which was a stretch and long thought out decision for me to make. I’m absolutely devastated that so much structure was removed on 10 teeth without my knowledge or consent. The temporary crowns look and feel awful. They are very thick, not centered, top edges are jagged, crooked, misshapen and buck forward. The photos look better than in person. These teeth are now very sensitive to cold. Even air conditioning blowing in my car hurt my teeth really bad. So now I have lost all trust in the dentist and don’t know what to do. The temporaries are so bad and unnatural looking. I’m very self conscious about how awful they look. It will be another month before permanents are placed. I can’t undo my teeth being ground down. We had discussed and concurred on the size, shape and color before any treatment began. The lab who will make the permanents does impressive work. Do I just hope the permanents will look better? I’m so disappointed and actually physically ill over this situation. This is a well respected dentist who has been in practice 40 years, teaches at a large dental university and lectures at conferences. Would it be reasonable to ask for a discount? No matter I won’t be getting what I want. Any other advice?
The photos are of my original teeth, the proposed look, the inspiration, the nubs with some temporaries placed and the full temporaries from different angles.
