Tiling straight onto plaster in shower area?

Having shower tiled, is it okay to tile straight onto old plaster in a shower space?

One wall has some sort of backing board on it but the others don't. Plaster isn't in particularly good condition either, especially around the bottom of the walls (see pics). Having floor and walls tiled (like a wet room).

Tiler is starting in a few days and this is how it has been done ready for him.

(Unsure whether the tiler will be doing anything else beforehand but I get the impression not, won't be able to find out until he starts).

Am I being a Karen or is this reasonable?

Hi all!

I'm getting my upstairs bathroom done at the moment, new everything and they are putting down some boarding over some gaps in floorboards from where old bathroom was taken out, but underneath is all sorts of rubble from bits of wall, wood, plaster, saw blades, pipes and all sorts been put under the floor.

Don't get me wrong it wasn't spotless before and I dont expect it to be but none of this was there. I could hear all of it hitting my downstairs kitchen ceiling the other day as it ended up falling/being swept under there and we are getting bits falling through our kitchen spotlights.

Am I wrong if I tell them I want as much of this as possible to be removed?
