Anyone able to help with kernel error 41
Ok so a quick bit of background, I laid my hands on a killer deal for a Alienware m15 r5 ryzen edition, nicely specd for what I need, ryzen 5900hx, 32gb ddr4 3200mhz ram, 1024gb Toshiba nvme ssd, rtx3070 8gb.
Now it had what looked like a sticker kit on it (effectively what they call online a skin) followed by more stickers on top, the chap said and I quote “they arnt hiding anything I promise” I already knew that was a lie, and quickly found out it was and whoever put the skin on sanded the entire plastics of the laptop to fit it… annoying as it is I knew the risk there and wasn’t bothered as it wasn’t cracked or dropped damage kind of thing….
Oddly it came with two genuine power adapters, I got it home and it had already been reset for me, so I installed a game (bioshock) just to test everything out, which worked out great on the surface, but shortly after I decided I’ll download war zone which is obviously a large game so left it too it after switching off sleep settings so I could peer over now and again… I noticed screen had gone to sleep regardless of my settings so woke it up and noticed no programs were open, so started it again and left it only to have the same thing happen… repeatedly so I check in windows on the error logs, that it had kernel error 42 and had restarted cleanly etc repeatedly, the laptop seems a tad warm but not mental hot, also just to note here I noticed then the prev owner had force set the rtx to be used in the bios instead of the built in gpu…
Where should I be looking first here ? Do we think a clean install and a bios reset will help ? Would bios forcing the rtx cause issues with alienwares command centre etc ?
I’m quite experienced with pcs and laptops however I’ve never had this issue before so I’m lost as to where to start, I’ll kick myself if I reset bios and fresh install to find out it’s something simple lol, I have some Liquid Metal and thermal paste here so I can refresh the gpu and cpu as I believe one is Liquid Metal on this model, I’ve done many others before so the Liquid Metal stuff isn’t new to me :-)
Feel free to judge and criticise if I’m wrong on anything haha I take any comments good or bad :-)
