Top 5 Best Deaths?
I am sorry if this post is redundant, as I just joined this sub! I grew up in the 80s and experienced the NOES craze in real time and I am so grateful for those years! But dang, where does the time go? Next year will mark 40 years for Dream Warriors. Thing is, I vividly remember the first time I watched this one. I was at my cousin's house, they had it "on tape" and wanted me to watch it. I was sitting with their dog the whole time and was really, really into the film. Had never seen anything so scary, cool, and fun! Later that night my aunt made us dinner and I remember us talking about part 2 and the original, as none of us had seen those yet. All of us were somehow introduced to the franchise at part 3! My dreams came true 30+ years later when I met Penelope Sudrow (Jennifer) at a Horror Con!
Anyway, do people have a top 5 favorite deaths from the franchise? For me, when I think of the franchise, I really just think of part 1 through Freddy's Dead, although I realize there are others (New Nightmare, Freddy VS Jason and the remake).
5... is Jennifer from part 3. There is an old VHS quality clip on YouTube showing the making of part 3 and behind the scenes video of Jennifer getting prepped for the TV kill. There was some serious creativity involved, lots of mechanical stuff that we barely get to see in the final cut. I love the strange arms Freddy has, his odd off-white face and of course his tagline "This is it Jennifer, your big break in TV...welcome to prime time, bitch!"
4...is Phillip from part 3. I love the blood, tendons/veins and how unusual this kill is. Very imaginative. The whole marionette concept is out of left field and I appreciate that. The stop-motion clay Freddy is sooooo awesome but too brief! I also like that the kill takes a bit, there's Joey trying to tell others and Phillip ends up in the tower.
3...Dan from part 5. I am talking about the uncut version. It is so gory and violent, and the practical effects are very solid. A real work of art, although I wish that Freddy was menacing and scary here, rather than being so goofy with his one-liners. But it's a very solid kill. I just think it should have happened later in the film.
2...Tina from part 1. What can I say that others haven't already said about this incredible kill?! For being the first kill in the first film, it leaves me so speechless and disturbed. Her screams, the violent ways she creeps on the wall and ceiling, the way she reaches for Rod and the splash she makes upon falling...oh, and the slithering off the bed to the floor. My gaaawwwd. Again, there is a behind the scenes thing on YouTube where we see some deleted/un-used footage from Tina's death and it shows us a very terrifying shot of Freddy's face as he is killing Tina in the bed. The light on his face is just perfect, he looks wet and evil, and the feathers from the pillow are floating in the frame. It would have been so cool for that clip(s) to have been used.
1...Debbie from part 4. I almost made this one number 2, but it takes the top spot because the kill is so involved and happens over several minutes/scenarios. And it gets worse and worse (meaning, it gets better and better!) The way her arms snap is just so realistic and brutal, and they look so wild as they fall and flop to the floor. And the growing arms and the way her face peels off is just disgusting...I LOVE IT! Most people know about the hour long making-of special from 1988. It was on the USA network and I remember taping it as a kid! It's on YouTube now, and it shows a ton of cool behind the scenes of part 4, including Debbie's death. There is a great interview with the creator/make-up artist of this whole concept/, Screaming Mad George! Check this one out for sure, lots of nostalgia!
By way of information, my LEAST favorite death of all time is Mark from part 5! Super Freddy?! Ugh, gimme a break. Rachel Talalay did not help matters whatsoever when she served up part 6 in 1991. Thoughts from others?!?!
